VE Day Celebrations 2025
All four of our East Devon residential homes had their own celebrations for VE Day. We reminisced and remembered all the sacrifices of the Second World War generation; veterans, those who served on the home front, and children who were evacuated.
Dove Lodge
Zara King performed songs from the era and got us singing along and waving our flags.
The residents played lots of games, like ‘hook a duck’ and ‘jacks’ and then had a buffet style lunch.
Arcot House
The residents had a lovely cream tea in the garden with the sun shining and music playing from the era. Some of the residents had memories of the war and shared these together.
Dove Court
Dove Court had a musical tribute for VE Day with music representing Britain, America, Russia, Poland and even Germany (Lili Marlene – a song sung by both sides during the war).
Two of our residents served during the war – Betty in the WAAF and Ray as a Bevin Boy.
Doveridge
Our Doveridge home celebrated with a singalong to music of the era with residents and their loved ones. They also enjoyed tucking in to their buffet lunch.
